The Asylum Estate- Foundation update

Hey there,

So, let's talk concrete! For those who don't know, this project is a real passion for us at Price Concrete Co. It's not just any job; it's part of our dream home build, lovingly nicknamed "The Asylum Estate" (and trust me, it can get a bit crazy around here!).

Now, let's dive into the nitty-gritty of what's happening with our foundation. It's a bit of a throwback, honestly, because we're going for something less common these days. See, we wanted that classic front porch feel where you step up into the house. Sounds simple, right? But as we've lived through a couple of wet seasons on our block, we've realised the wisdom behind going up a bit.

Here's the lowdown on our slab journey so far: first, we got the subfloor plumbing pipes in place. Then came the fun part—digging and pouring those initial 4-metre pier holes, followed by the footings all around for the brickwork to sit on. Once those footings were set, it was brick-laying time. We've got two layers of brick with an open cavity between them, reinforced with steel bars for strength. That cavity? It's going to be filled with concrete when the final slab goes in.

The bricks wrap around the whole house, creating a sturdy base. Inside, we've filled with sand that's been compacted and levelled—a crucial step for stability. Plus, we've added more piers in strategic spots within this sand layer. Now, we're gearing up to install the pods and mesh, getting everything ready for that final pour.

Some sections will see the slab poured level with the top of the bricks, acting almost like built-in boxing. In other areas, where we'll have cladding on the walls, we're setting up separate boxing. It's all about getting that perfect, solid foundation for our dream home.

Stay tuned for more updates as we make progress on this exciting journey!

Warm regards,

Steph from Price Concrete Co.
